The short version
- This is a reflection tool. It is not therapy, counselling, diagnosis or professional advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship of any kind.
- You must be 16 or over, and you must answer as yourself. Do not use another person's account, answer on their behalf, or use Between Us to monitor, pressure or build a case against anyone.
- The couples test and its full results are free. Paid items are optional. One-time purchases do not renew; subscriptions do, and you can cancel them yourself at any time.
- AI-written sections are labelled as such, can be wrong, and are not an assessment of either person.
The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and [Legal entity name], the operator of Between Us, registered at [Registered address]. By creating an account, taking a quiz or otherwise using the site, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
The privacy policy, the cookie policy and the disclaimer form part of this agreement. Where the disclaimer and these terms say the same thing in different words, both are intended.
Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Between Us. If you are under 16, you may not create an account, join a partner session or submit answers, and we will delete an account if we learn it belongs to someone younger.
You must have the legal capacity to agree to these terms, and you must not be barred from using the service under the laws that apply to you.
What Between Us is, and is not
Between Us is a structured reflection tool. Two people answer questions about their relationship separately, and — only if both agree — see a comparison of their answers, including where one person misread the other. There are also individual quizzes, short tools and articles.
Between Us is not:
- therapy, counselling, coaching or mediation;
- medical, psychological, psychiatric or clinical care;
- a diagnosis, screening instrument or clinical assessment;
- legal, financial or any other kind of professional advice;
- a validated psychometric test, or a scientifically proven predictor of anything;
- a crisis service, and we do not monitor accounts for signs of risk.
Using Between Us does not create a clinician-patient, counsellor-client, or any other professional or fiduciary relationship between you and us. Nothing produced by the product is a substitute for a qualified professional who can actually talk to you. If you are in distress or in danger, please use these resources.
The results describe answers that two non-experts gave about themselves. They are a starting point for a conversation, not a finding.
Your account
You are responsible for your account. Specifically: keep your password or sign-in method to yourself, use an email address you actually control, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. We are not able to recover answers that were deleted by someone using your credentials.
One account per person. Two people in a relationship need two accounts, because two separately-owned sets of answers is the entire mechanism. Sharing one account defeats the product and makes the privacy guarantees meaningless.
You may delete your account yourself at any time from /app/settings. Deletion is irreversible.
Acceptable use
Most of this list is obvious. Two items are not, and they matter more than the rest.
Do not use Between Us to monitor, pressure, coerce, or build a case against another person. That includes requiring a partner to take the test, demanding to see their answers, treating a refusal as evidence of something, using results as material in an argument, or presenting output from this site as proof of what someone is. The product is deliberately built so that it cannot be used this way — there is no way to read another person's raw answers, and we will not produce a verdict on anyone — but the intent is prohibited regardless of whether it succeeds.
Do not use another person's account, and do not answer on their behalf. Answering as your partner, watching over their shoulder while they answer, or completing their half of a session yourself produces results that are worse than nothing, and it is a misuse of the service.
You also agree not to:
- submit answers for someone who has not consented to take part;
- upload unlawful, abusive or harassing content, or content that discloses another person's private information;
- attempt to access data you do not own, probe or circumvent our access controls, or test the security of the service without written permission;
- scrape, bulk-download or republish our content, questions or article text;
- use automated means to create accounts or generate reports;
- resell access, or present Between Us output as your own professional assessment of a client;
- interfere with the service for other people, including by evading rate limits.
If you are a professional — a therapist, a coach, a mediator — you are welcome to use Between Us with people you work with as a conversation aid. You may not describe its output as a clinical assessment, and the professional judgement remains entirely yours.
Partner sessions and consent
A partner session begins when one person creates it and sends a private invitation link. Opening that link is an invitation to take part, not an obligation. Nobody is required to accept, and declining is a complete answer.
Both partners answer independently. Neither can see the other's raw answers at any point, and nothing is compared until both have explicitly agreed to compare. Free-text answers require a second, separate agreement before they are shared.
Either partner may stop a session, withdraw their agreement to compare, or delete their own answers at any time, from their own account, without the other person's permission and without having to explain why. We will not notify your partner of a reason on your behalf.
Because results concern both of you, they are shared material. By agreeing to compare, you accept that your partner will be able to read the comparison and any report generated from the session, and that they may keep or copy what they read. We cannot control what another person does with a page they were permitted to see. If that prospect concerns you, do not agree to compare.
Free and paid
The couples compatibility test and its complete results are free. That includes every category, the perception gaps from the Relationship Mirror, the alignment counts and the discussion topics. Individual quizzes and the free tools are free and need no account. We do not hold back the useful half of your results to sell it back to you.
Paid items are optional, and each is listed on the pricing page.
- Advanced Couples Report — $4.99, one time. A deeper written interpretation of results you already have, plus a 30-day plan. This is a single payment for a single shared session. It does not renew. It also grants permanent ad-free browsing — and that benefit applies to the purchasing account only. Your partner can read the report for free, because it is about both of you, but they do not receive the ad-free benefit. If they want it, they buy their own copy or their own report.
- AI Conflict Report — $2.99, one time. A neutral read on one disagreement, generated only after both partners have submitted their account and agreed to share. It does not decide who was right, and it will not do that if you ask it to. It does not include ad-free browsing.
- Relationship Plus — $6.99 per month. Ongoing tracking, saved history, extra exercises and ad-free browsing while active.
- Couples Complete — $9.99 per month. Everything in Relationship Plus, plus expanded AI-assisted tools and additional monthly reports. Usage limits still apply to AI-assisted tools; they are generous, not unlimited.
Prices are in US dollars and shown before any tax that applies where you live. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive your full card details. We may change prices, but a change never affects a one-time purchase you already made, and we will give notice before it applies to an existing subscription renewal.
Subscription billing
Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance to the payment method you gave Stripe, and they renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel yourself at any time from your billing settings — no email, no retention conversation, no phone call.
Cancelling stops future charges and lets the current period run to its end. You keep access until the period you already paid for finishes, and then it stops. We do not cut you off on the day you cancel, and we do not charge you again after it.
If a payment fails, we will retry and tell you. If it keeps failing, paid features pause. Your answers and results stay in your account either way — we do not hold your own data hostage to a failed card. Ads return when a subscription ends, unless you hold a permanent ad-free entitlement from a previous one-time purchase.
Refunds
We would rather be specific than generous-sounding and vague.
- One-time reports, once delivered, are generally non-refundable. The thing you bought is generated for you at the moment of purchase and cannot be returned. This is stated at checkout before you pay.
- Genuine failures are refunded. If a report did not generate, came back empty or truncated, is plainly not about your answers, or you were charged twice for the same thing, email us and we will refund it. We will not argue about it, and we will not ask you to prove a technical fault we can see in our own logs.
- Subscriptions: if you cancel within 14 days of a charge and have not used the paid features in that period, email us and we will refund that month in full. Beyond that, we may refund part of a period at our discretion, pro-rata, where there is a fair reason. The ordinary case — you forgot to cancel and used the service — is not a refund, but tell us anyway; we read every one of these.
- Statutory rights. If the law where you live gives you a right to cancel or a right to a refund that is better than this policy, that law wins. Our policy does not reduce it.
Refund requests go to hello@betweenus.app. Include the email address on the account and the approximate date of purchase.
AI-generated content
Scoring and comparison on Between Us are done by fixed rules in our code. AI is used only for longer interpretive writing in paid reports and a few clearly-marked tools. Every AI-written section is labelled where it appears.
AI-generated text can be wrong. It can be generic, it can over-read a small difference, and it can state something with more confidence than the underlying answers support. It is produced from a de-identified summary of your answers, it is not reviewed by a human before you see it, and it is not an assessment of either of you.
Treat it as a prompt for discussion. Do not treat it as a finding about your relationship, and do not use it to make a decision — about a relationship, a child, a living arrangement or anything else — that you would not have made without it. If a piece of AI output reads like a diagnosis or a verdict, that is a fault in our product and we would like to know about it.
Advertising
Free accounts may see advertising on public pages. Advertising is served only after you explicitly opt in to advertising cookies, and it never appears on your answers, your results, your reports, your tools or your settings. Paid subscribers and anyone who has bought the Advanced Couples Report do not see ads at all. The cookie policy explains the mechanism.
Intellectual property
The site, its design, the questionnaires, the scoring logic, the article text and the Between Us name are ours or our licensors', and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may read, print and share pages for your own personal use. You may not republish, resell or incorporate our content into a competing product.
Your answers remain yours. You keep ownership of everything you write and submit. You grant us only the limited permission we need to operate the service: to store your answers, to generate your results, to generate a comparison when you have consented, to send a de-identified summary to our AI provider when you have consented to that, and to show you your own history. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not use your answers or your free text to train AI models, and we do not licence them to anyone for that purpose. We do not publish anything you wrote, and we do not quote it in marketing. Where we describe usage publicly it is in aggregate and cannot be traced to a person.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Between Us whenever you like, and delete your account yourself from settings.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks the acceptable use rules — in particular one being used to monitor, coerce or impersonate another person — or where we are required to by law, or where keeping it open would put someone at risk. Where it is safe and lawful to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. For a clear-cut case of using the product against another person, we will act first.
If we close your account, we will refund the unused portion of a current subscription period unless the closure was for serious misuse.
Disclaimers
Between Us is provided as it is. We work hard on it, and we still cannot promise that it will be available without interruption, free of defects, or that your results will be accurate about you. Accuracy is partly outside our control: the output reflects the answers two people gave on a particular day, and people answer imprecisely, generously or defensively without meaning to.
We make no promise that using Between Us will improve your relationship, prevent a breakup, predict compatibility, or tell you whether to stay or leave. We will not try to answer that question, and you should be sceptical of any product that offers to.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Limitation of liability
In plain English: if Between Us goes wrong, we will refund what you paid and fix what we can. We are not accepting responsibility for what happens in your relationship.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data where you could have exported it, emotional distress, or the decisions you or your partner make after reading your results. Our total liability to you for any claim connected to Between Us is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty US dollars.
This limit is a real part of the bargain: the core product is free, and we cannot offer a free reflection tool while carrying unlimited liability for how two adults respond to their own answers.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law jurisdiction], and the courts of [Governing law jurisdiction] have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not take away any protection or any right to bring a claim locally that the law where you live gives you.
Before starting a formal dispute, please email us. Most problems are a misunderstanding or a bug, and both are faster to fix than to litigate.
Changes to these terms
We will update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. For material changes — pricing, refunds, acceptable use, liability — we will notify signed-in users by email or an in-product notice at least 14 days before they take effect, so you have time to read them and to cancel if you disagree. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.
A change never applies retroactively to a one-time purchase you have already made.

Before launch
A human must complete the bracketed items: legal entity name, registered address and the governing law jurisdiction. The refund window and the liability cap should also be checked against the consumer law of the jurisdiction we settle on, since local rules may override both.
